Local Community Foundation
Announces Third-Quarter Grants

The Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut, also known as the Torrington Area Foundation for Public Giving, has announced third-quarter grants to a variety of charitable organizations in Litchfield County. The Foundation’s total charitable distribution for the third quarter of 2005 will be $38,570.

Vo-Ag Department, Housatonic Valley Regional High School – $2,670 – to create and manage a nonprofit regional nursery. This is a vocational/agricultural program to grow trees that will eventually be available for replanting in public land and parks in the Northwest Corner. (from the Carlton and Jenny Fyler Fund)

Grantwriters Development Network – up to $1,500 – for office hours at the Foundation and informational meetings. (from the Marion Wm. and Alice Edwards Fund)

Rebuilding Together of Litchfield County – $5,000 – for materials for house repairs for needy homeowners. (from the Edwin and Edith Stone Fund)

Foothills Visiting Nurse & Home Care (Winsted) – $2,000 – to support an education and outreach program. (from the Eva M. Coty Fund)

Artwell Gallery & Community Arts Center – $5,000 – to purchase technology equipment and supplies for a digital learning center. (Fyler Fund)

Housatonic Valley Association – $4,000 – to fund a pocket guide and website. (Edwards Fund)

New Hartford Recreation Commission – $10,000 matching (challenge) grant – to renovate the Brodie Park Field House. (Edwards Fund)

American Red Cross/Charter Oak Chapter – $800 – to print 10,000 First Aid posters. (Stone Fund)

Armstrong Chamber Concerts – $2,500 – to fund a student music enrichment program. (Fyler Fund)

Litchfield Community Center – $1,475 – to purchase recreational equipment. (Fyler Fund)

Morris Housing Authority – $500 – to purchase a copier for the community room. (Stone Fund)

The Rob Branham Foundation – $500 – to support a bone-marrow testing drive for the National Marrow Donor Program Registry. (Stone Fund)

Dr. John Glenn Fund for Nurses – $1,500.00 to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital for a writing workshop for nurses

Seth L. Tracy Fund for Special Needs – $100.00 to Litchfield Little Britches for therapy for children with special needs and $225.00 to LARC for the Litchfield County Special Olympics ski team

Jim and Nancy Garfield Fund for the Arts – $500.00 to the Northwest Connecticut Arts Council for general operations; $150.00 to Trinity Arts Series for general operations; $150.00 to Joyful Noise, Inc. for general operations

Richard M. Gilman Memorial Fund – $300.00 to Hawkwing, a Native American assistance organization, to provide beds for elders; $200.00 to Women’s Support Services of Sharon for its “Calling All Cars” program;
$450.00 to a Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund that will benefit residents served by the New Orleans and Baton Rouge Community Foundations
